The Canton Week – October 26th 2026

What’s Happening in Canton This Week

Welcome to the Canton Week, your go-to source for local news, community updates, and market insights right here in Canton. Here’s what’s making headlines in our city this week.

Cherokee County Wants Input on Data Center Rules Thursday

Cherokee County is holding a public input meeting Thursday, October 29, on a proposed ordinance that would set the rules for data centers in unincorporated parts of the county. Staff is drafting it now, so this is the window for residents and business owners to weigh in before it is finalized. Data centers keep showing up around metro Atlanta, including an expansion Alpharetta’s planning panel backed this month, and rules like these usually decide where the buildings can go, how far they sit from homes and what they have to do about noise. Check the county’s website for the time and place. If you own a home or land in unincorporated Cherokee, this is the meeting to attend.

Cherokee County Takes Over Nine Lake Allatoona Parks January 1

Starting January 1, Cherokee County will run nine U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recreation areas on Lake Allatoona: Sweetwater Campground and Day Use Area, Victoria Campground and Day Use Area, Payne Campground and Boat Ramp, Knox Bridge Boat Ramp, Galts Ferry Day Use Area and Kellogg Creek Day Use Area. The county says the change is meant to improve stewardship, safety and the experience for visitors. Lake access drives a lot of value on the west side of the county, so if you own near the water, this one is worth keeping an eye on.

Canton Unveils Its First Public Sculpture, Plus a Busy Week Downtown

The city unveiled “Currents of Canton,” its first sculpture installation, at Heritage Park on Friday. Artist Huelani Mei’s piece features the Etowah darter, an endangered fish local to the Etowah River system. Downtown stays busy this week. The Canton Farmers Market Night Market, Howl-O-Ween and Chili Cookoff runs Tuesday, October 27, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Brown Park on East Marietta Street, and Canton City Limits Storyteller Night is Wednesday, October 28, at 7 p.m. at the Historic Canton Theatre. If you are thinking about a move to Canton, an evening downtown this week will show you more than any listing photo.
