City Panel Backs a Bigger Data Center on North Point Parkway
The Alpharetta Planning Commission has backed plans to add 60,000 square feet to the Royal 400 Data Center at 4905 North Point Parkway, plus a Georgia Power substation to serve the site. The facility sits on nearly 39 acres and processes financial transactions for local clients. A commissioner raised noise concerns since offices and homes sit nearby, and the owner says a screen wall and landscaping will keep the hum down. City Council takes the final vote October 26 at City Hall. Alpharetta already has 15 other data centers, and steady commercial investment is a big part of what keeps the North Point corridor employing people who buy homes here. Fulton Schools Starts Redistricting Talks North of the River
Fulton County Schools has opened community forums on redrawing attendance zones for eight schools north of the Chattahoochee, including Autrey Mill, Elkins Pointe, Haynes Bridge and Holcomb Bridge middle schools. Enrollment is falling, and one option on the table is consolidating those four middle schools into three. The first elementary forum is Tuesday, October 13 at Roswell High, draft maps come at the November forums, a final plan goes to the board in January and a vote is expected in February. School zones move home values, so if you own or are shopping in a zone under review, watch this one closely. I can tell you whether a home you are considering sits in an affected zone.
Isaias Shuffled the Weekend, but the Fall Calendar Is Still Full
Hurricane Isaias clipped metro Atlanta this past weekend and forced the city to cancel Saturday at the Wire and Wood Songwriters Festival, though Friday night went ahead. The best of the fall calendar is still to come. Boo Bash at The Grove at Wills Park is Saturday, October 17, trick-or-treating at The Plaza at Avalon is Saturday, October 24, and the Fall Cocktail Crawl in downtown Alpharetta is Saturday, November 14. If you are thinking about a move to Alpharetta, go to one of them, then drive a few neighborhoods on the way home. An afternoon on the ground tells you more than any listing photo.
