The Windward Week – October 26th 2026

What’s Happening in Windward This Week

Welcome to the Windward Week, your go-to source for local news, community updates, and market insights right here in Windward, Alpharetta. Here’s what’s making headlines in our neighborhood this week.

Alpharetta Sends the North Point Arena Deal to Fulton County

On October 19 the City Council voted unanimously to approve a tax allocation district agreement for the North Point Mall redevelopment and sent it to Fulton County commissioners. The plan projects $192.42 million in future county tax dollars and $109.12 million from the city going back into the district, and no county money can be spent unless the project lands a pro hockey team. Jamestown and New York Life are proposing a 20,000-seat arena, a music hall, two hotels, office space and 1,385 apartments on the mall site, while The Gathering in South Forsyth chases the same team. The city is now working to bring Fulton County Schools in as well. One schedule note: tonight’s council meeting has been canceled and its agenda moves to November 16, which is where the data center vote I covered two weeks ago was headed. If you own near North Point, both are worth following.

Alpharetta Tax Bills Are Arriving, Due December 18

City property tax bills started going out last week, with payment due December 18. Alpharetta kept its rate at 5.75 mills, where it has been since 2009, and eligible homesteaded owners get the state’s Homeowners Tax Relief Grant, which takes up to $18,000 off assessed value. Fulton County and school taxes come on a separate bill. If your number went up, check that your homestead exemption is on file. I can also pull recent sales on your street so you can see how your assessment compares to the market.

Medley Opens Thursday in Johns Creek

Toro Development, the team behind Avalon, holds the grand opening for Medley on Thursday, October 29, at McGinnis Ferry Road and Johns Creek Parkway, a short drive from Windward. The $560 million project on the old State Farm campus covers 43 acres with 750 apartments, 133 townhomes, a hotel and roughly 150,000 square feet of shops and restaurants. Trader Joe’s is already open, and Lily Sushi Bar, Fadó Irish Pub and Five Daughters Bakery are on the tenant list. First residents move in November 1. I’ll be watching what a walkable town center that close does for resale demand along the McGinnis Ferry corridor.
